The Raven King - Review

The fourth and final installment in the spellbinding series from the irrepressible, #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater.

All her life, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love's death. She doesn't believe in true love and never thought this would be a problem, but as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.

Book Breakdown

Does anyone else feel cheated? I mean the kissing scenes? It was just blah kisses blah. No description whatsoever. I mean the whole series started with Blue being told she'd kill the one she loved with a kiss. Then the kiss is so just brushed over. It's like all this buildup and the payoff is not worth it at all. Same with Ronan and Adam, I wanted from them. Am I the only one that feels this way?

Also they spend four books searching for this Welsh king and he's dead. Yeah that's the big ending I was waiting for... not. This ending was such a let down for this amazing series. I had high hopes for this one and I was so let down.

I am glad Gansey didn't stay dead, though I kind of knew he wouldn't. It just seemed like he would come back. If he had died... this book would have been just freaking awful. I really liked Henry, he was a welcome addition. At first I wasn't sure I could trust him but he's a good guy and I'm glad he joined the group.

I am so happy that Piper got what was coming to her! That was probably the best part of the whole book! I'm really glad she left the ending open for more from these characters, I love this crew so much! Just please, when you set something highly, make the payoff worth it.

50/50 Friday - Best/Worst Food in Books

This meme is hosted by myself and the ever wonderful Laura from Blue Eye Books

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read.

Topic for the Week
Best/Worst foods in books that you'd actually want to eat.

I'm using Harry Potter today because that series has some really cool foods and drinks and some I'd never ever want to touch.

Worst
Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans.

Some of these sound really good like Watermelon or Candyfloss but then there are flavors like Rotten Egg or Vomit. Ewww so no thank you but I'd pass on this. I've got some bad luck and would only ever get the nasty ones.

Best
Chocolate Frogs!

I'd love these plus the cards would be so awesome to collect as well. I mean who doesn't love chocolate anyway?

8) The Winner's Curse

7) A Torch Against the Night

6) Clockwork Angel

5) An Ember in the Ashes

4) Clockwork Prince

3) Queen of Shadows

2) Heir of Fire

Now my favorite book of all the books I read in 2016 (and I read 146 this year so this list was really hard to make).

What were your favorite reads this year? Do you agree with any of the books on my list?

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend and a very Merry (or Happy) Christmas! I hope your surrounded by those you love most while eating some good food and opening all those wonderful gifts. Just try to remember that if you get a gift a you don't like that it's always the thought that counts and also some people aren't getting any gifts this year. Times are getting harder in the real world. My mother used to tell me that the two years we had Christmas. Yes, my family quit doing Christmas because of their religion. Some day I should really explain better than just saying that religion... nah.

So anyway, ha ha. I hope all is well for you in the coming year, stay warm by the fireplace and enjoy the snow. If you've gotten any, sadly we won't have any. Anyone want to send some snow to me? I'll be your best friend forever.

Love and best wishes to all!

Blue Lily, Lily Blue - Review

The third installment in the all-new series from the #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater!

Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs. The trick with found things, though, is how easily they can be lost.

Book Breakdown

I'm so ready for Blue and Gansey to just get together already. Same for Adam and Ronan. They all just need to be happy together. I hope it all ends well for them. I'm rooting so hard for them!

A lot happens in this installment, I've read some reviews that say this book is slower than the rest but I think it's a lot faster than any in the whole series. Even faster than The Raven King. The hunt for Blue's mum, Greenmantle with Piper, Adam's court date and everything else going on with him, finding Gwenllian, someone dies, and also Blue's father. That does not sound like a slow book to me! Sometimes it was hard to keep up things were moving so fast.

I honestly didn't see Greenmantle running away and Piper turned into the badass? Like whoa, didn't see that coming by far. She's a bitch and I hope she gets what she deserves. I wanted to see her die but instead she wakes up something that I'm sure is evil and then kills JESSE!

I really liked JESSE -if you've reads the book, you know why I write his name in all caps ;)  - I felt so bad when he died, I actually teared up a bit. He'd already lost all his family and his father and grandfather and now... all because of Piper... So sad.

Mr Gray just keeps getting better and better. I love him and he's in the running to be my favorite male character with Gansey. Yeah. Now onto Malory, why was he there? He added nothing to the plot as far as I could see. He was just there to what? Add more pages I guess? So unneeded.

It's so sweet to see how much everyone loves Gansey, how really like their king he is. I love the friendships in this book, there aren't enough friendships in books that are like this. I want friends like this. Real friendships.

I was so glad that Adam finally went to court and it made me smile so much when Ronan and Gansey showed up to help him out. They rushed over from school to just be there for their friend. I was smiling and laughing so much. It was a nice light moment that I think was needed. It shows that they are more of a family than anything else.

Overall, this one is my favorite of the series. The best one. I usually don't think this about the third book in a series but it is by far my favorite one. Read this series if you haven't yet!

50/50 Friday - Sidekicks

This meme is hosted by myself and the every wonderful Laura from Blue Eye Books

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read.

Topic for this Week
Sidekick deserving of a spinoff/better off with the group

I'm going to use Sarah J Maas books for these choices as her characters were the first ones to come to mind.

First off. The sidekick I would love to see get her own spinoff would have to be Amren from A Court of Mist and Fury. There is so much I want to know about her, she's so badass, and yet so hidden in the darkness that I don't know much about her. I think she could carry a series on her own and I think she could do it perfectly!

This one might get me so backlash but the sidekick I think is better with the group and I don't think he needs his own novella is Chaol from Throne of Glass. I know everyone loves him and some are even mad that he lost the girl but I always thought he was very overrated. I mean I like him but to run away and let Dorian suffer and just ugh. Nope. Just nope.

Next Week's Topic
Best/Worst food in a book (that you'd want to eat)

Have a great weekend, a Merry (Happy) Christmas and a Happy New Year!
As always, happy reading and be kind to others!

This meme is hosted over at Breaking the Spine.

The Dream Thieves - Review

The second installment in the all-new series from the masterful, #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater!

Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after…

Series: The Raven Cycle
Read: November 14-17, 2016.
Published: September 17th 2013
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Page Count: 448

Book Breakdown

I want to start of by saying I usually hate slow books. I don't mind if they start slow to world build or to get to know the characters but if a book stays slow, I get bored. That is not the case with this series!

These are the only slow books I've ever enjoyed. They are magical and beautiful. The characters are so real, they are the true stars of this series. They are so real, they each have flaws and areas where they shine like the sun. Just like every one of us. I could not love these characters more.

This one is mainly about Ronan who can pull items from his dreams. It also deals with Adam coming to terms with the changes inside himself from The Raven Boys. There is a lot more of The Raven Boys themselves in this book than Blue. Her role is smaller in this one but she is still there so don't worry. The plot keeps moving so slowly towards the finish line.

Blue and Adam 'break up' in this one and she has a moment with Gansey. I use the quotations because I don't think Blue and Adam were every really dating. They never seemed like it at all. Ronan is hinted at being gay in this one. It is weird that I'd love to see him and Adam together? I think that they would be a wonderful couple.

My biggest problem with this book is the drugs. Maybe dream drugs? I don't like drugs in my books. As someone who grew up in a drug culture, I can't approve of it and I'm glad Ronan got away from it. I was so proud of him for doing that.

The Gray man is freaking awesome! I love the plot twist with him. I actually did not see this twist coming and I love when this happens, it's nice to be entertained and not surprised by a great book. Overall, another great book in this series. I'm loving it so much so far!

50/50 Friday - Animal sidekick

This meme is hosted by myself and the every wonderful Laura from Blue Eye Books

What is 50/50 Friday?
Everyone has a favorite and then we also have something we dislike. Like a coin, there are two sides to every question. Example: best sequel you've read/worst sequel you've read.

This week the topic is all about the animals in books. What animal sidekick would you want as a pet and one you would never want as a pet? This one was pretty easy to me.

The one I would want to keep as a pet would be Fleetfoot from Throne of Glass. I mean he's sweet, cute and oh so lovable. Who wouldn't want a Fleetfoot?

The one I would never want would be Church. He's an evil little creature even if he is cute as could be. I mean... I don't think I could handle him as a pet even though I'm a cat person usually.
